Where We Are

You can find us at 732 N Main Street, Cedar City, UT 84721. The office is easy to reach from anywhere in town or from I-15.

Parking is free and on site, so there is no meter to feed or block to circle.

Hours and How Scheduling Works

Our front desk and phones are staffed Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM. Morning and evening appointments can be scheduled by request, which many clients find helpful around work, classes, or family life.

New clients can usually get a first appointment within a week or two. You can ask for a specific clinician, or we can match you with someone based on what you are hoping to work on. To get started, call (435) 233-2240, email info@rootscw.com, or reach out through our contact page.

What to Expect on Your First Visit

Before you arrive

We send intake paperwork by secure email ahead of your first appointment. It takes up to 30 minutes and covers your contact information, insurance, a brief background, and consent. If you do not get to it beforehand, you can complete it when you arrive.

When you get here

Park in our free lot and check in at the front desk. If you still have paperwork to finish, arrive a little early.

Your session

Sessions typically last 50 minutes. The first one is mostly a conversation about what brought you in and what you hope counseling can help with. You set the pace. For more detail, read our guide to preparing for your first counseling session.

Matching with a clinician

Our team includes licensed clinicians (CMHC, LCSW, and MFT), supervised interns, and skills coaches. If the fit does not feel right, tell us.

Everything We Offer in Person

Counseling for individuals, couples, and families

We offer individual counseling, couples and marriage counseling, family counseling, and group therapy. Roots is a Gottman Relationship Checkup Approved Member, and our couples work draws on approaches like EFT and the Gottman Method. Clinicians also use EMDR, IFS, trauma-informed, and mindfulness-based approaches for concerns like anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, stress and burnout, and life transitions.

DBT skills groups

Roots is a DBT center, and most of our clinicians use DBT in their work. You can join a DBT skills group on its own or pair it with individual counseling. Our Youth DBT group is for ages 14 to 18. New to DBT? Start with What Is DBT?

Teen therapy

We see teens ages 10 and up. Teen therapy gives young people a space of their own, with parents involved in ways that fit the family.

Alternative wellness therapies

Our alternative wellness therapies (steam, aromatherapy, and chromotherapy) are offered in person only.

Evaluations, assessments, and letters

We provide court-ordered evaluations, mental health assessments, and ESA letters. Anger management is available individually or in a group, with a certificate of completion.

Who We Serve Nearby

Insurance and Billing

Roots is in-network with many major Utah plans, and self-pay is available. We can confirm whether your insurance is accepted, and it is your responsibility to verify your coverage and benefits with your plan. Some plans are limited to certain clinicians, so mention your plan when you call. See our insurance page for the current list.

For billing questions, call our billing line at (435) 233-6001. Current clients can sign in to the patient portal (external link, new tab).

Meet the Owners

Milton McLelland, CMHC and Rochelle McLelland, CMHC founded Roots in Cedar City in 2017. Learn more about Milton, Rochelle, and the rest of our team.

When Coming In Is Not Practical

Telehealth therapy lets you meet with your clinician by secure, HIPAA-compliant video from anywhere in Utah, with the same session length as in person. You need to be physically in Utah at the time of the session, and if the connection drops, your clinician can switch to phone. Compare the two in Online Therapy vs. In-Person.

If you are in crisis, call or text 988, or call 911.
