Counseling and Online Therapy in Southern Utah

Roots Counseling & Wellness provides counseling across Southern Utah, both in person at our Cedar City office and through online therapy by secure telehealth. Anyone physically in Utah can meet with one of our licensed clinicians by video, so a long drive does not have to stand between you and support. Call (435) 233-2240 to get started.

Based in Cedar City, Serving the Whole Region

Roots was founded in Cedar City in 2017 by Milton McLelland, CMHC and Rochelle McLelland, CMHC. Our single office, at 732 N Main Street, is where clients come for in-person sessions, DBT skills groups, and alternative wellness therapies. Visit the Cedar City office page for directions, parking, and hours.

Beyond Cedar City, most of our Southern Utah clients connect through telehealth therapy. Sessions run the same length as office visits and use secure, HIPAA-compliant video.

How Online Therapy Works With Roots

Online therapy with Roots is simple to set up. You need a private spot, a phone or computer with a camera, and an internet connection. Because of state licensing rules, you must be physically in Utah at the time of each session.

If your signal fails partway through, your clinician can switch to a phone call so the session can continue. Wondering what the first appointment is like on screen? See Your First Telehealth Session and Online Therapy vs. In-Person.

Southern Utah Counties We Serve

Iron County

Iron County is our home, and it is where in-person care is closest. Our Iron County hub covers Enoch, Parowan, Brian Head, Kanarraville, and the more remote towns of the Escalante Valley.

Washington County

From St. George to Springdale at the gateway to Zion National Park, Washington County residents can work with Roots by telehealth or make the trip up I-15 to Cedar City. Find every community on our Washington County hub.

Garfield County

Garfield County stretches from the Sevier River valley to the canyon country along Scenic Byway 12. We serve Panguitch, the county seat, along with Hatch, Bryce Canyon City, Tropic, and Escalante.

Kane County

In Kane County, we work with clients in Orderville along US-89 and in Duck Creek Village, high on Cedar Mountain.

Beaver County

Beaver County sits just north of Iron County. We serve Beaver, the county seat on I-15, plus Minersville and Milford to the west.

Piute County

Piute County is small, quiet, and spread out. Clients in Marysvale and Circleville, both along US-89, can meet with us by telehealth.

Millard County

At the northern edge of the region, we serve Fillmore and Kanosh near I-15, along with Delta out on the west desert side of the county.

The I-15 Corridor and Rural Distances

I-15 ties much of Southern Utah together, running from the St. George area through Cedar City and on north past Beaver and Fillmore. For towns near the interstate, coming to the office now and then can be realistic. For communities off the main highways, the miles add up quickly, and weather and mountain passes can make travel harder for part of the year.

That is why many people in rural Southern Utah choose telehealth for regular sessions. You can still visit Cedar City whenever an in-person appointment or group makes sense for you.

Services Available Throughout Southern Utah

By telehealth or in person, our team offers individual counseling, couples counseling, family counseling, teen therapy for ages 10 and up, and support for anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, and life transitions. Roots is a DBT center, and you can learn about our approach on the DBT therapy page.

Our clinicians hold CMHC, LCSW, and MFT licenses, and we also have supervised interns and skills coaches. You can ask for a specific clinician or let us match you.

Insurance and Self-Pay

We are in-network with many major Utah plans, and self-pay is an option. We can confirm whether your insurance is accepted, and it is your responsibility to verify your coverage and benefits with your plan. Visit our insurance page, or read Insurance and Therapy in Utah for a plain-language overview.

If you are in crisis, call or text 988, or call 911.
