Online Therapy for Salt Lake County

Yes, you can get online therapy in Salt Lake County from Roots Counseling & Wellness. We offer secure, HIPAA-compliant telehealth sessions with licensed Utah clinicians to clients anywhere in the state, including the Salt Lake Valley. We do not have an office in Salt Lake County, so all of our care there happens by video.

Why people in the Salt Lake Valley choose a statewide telehealth practice

There are many counseling options along the Wasatch Front. So it is fair to ask why someone in the valley would work with a practice based in Cedar City. The honest answer is that it comes down to fit, and a few reasons come up often.

Flexible scheduling

Commutes on I-15 and I-215 can eat up an afternoon. With telehealth, there is no drive and no parking, so a session can fit into a lunch hour or the end of a workday. We offer morning and evening appointments that can be scheduled, and our front desk and phones are staffed Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM.

Finding a specific approach

Some people are looking for a particular kind of therapy and want a clinician trained in it. Most of our clinicians use DBT in their work, and we offer a DBT skills group on its own or alongside individual counseling. We also provide IFS and EMDR, along with trauma-informed and mindfulness-based therapy.

ESA letter consultations

If you are exploring an emotional support animal, we offer ESA letter consultations by telehealth. Your clinician will talk with you about your situation and whether a letter is appropriate.

Privacy

Some people simply prefer to see a therapist outside the circles they move in every day. Meeting by video with a clinician from another part of the state can feel more private for them.

What telehealth with Roots looks like

You meet your clinician over secure video from a private place of your choosing. Sessions run the same length as in-person visits, typically 50 minutes. If the connection fails, your clinician can continue by phone.

You must be physically in Utah during each session because of state licensing rules. Before your first appointment, we send intake paperwork by secure email. It takes up to 30 minutes. For a closer look, read what to expect at your first telehealth session.

Services available by telehealth include individual counseling, couples counseling, family counseling, teen therapy for ages 10 and up, and support for anxiety, depression and trauma.

Insurance and getting started

We are in-network with many major Utah plans, including Aetna, BCBS Regence/Anthem, SelectHealth (not Signature), PEHP and Optum/UHC/UMR, and self-pay is available. Some plans are limited to certain clinicians. We can confirm whether your insurance is accepted, and it is your responsibility to verify your coverage and benefits with your plan. The full list is on our insurance page.

Most first appointments can be scheduled within a week or two, and you can request a specific clinician or be matched. Call (435) 233-2240 or reach us through the contact page.

If you are in crisis, call or text 988, or call 911.
