Milton McLelland is a Clinical Mental Health Counselor and the Founder and Owner of Roots Counseling & Wellness in Cedar City, Utah. With a deep commitment to accessible, evidence-based care, Milton built Roots Counseling on a DBT-based foundation — integrating Dialectical Behavior Therapy skills into every aspect of the practice.

Milton is also passionate about Internal Family Systems (IFS), sometimes called "parts work." This approach helps clients understand and compassionately engage with the different parts of themselves — the protectors, the wounded inner children, and the core Self that leads with clarity and calm. Milton believes that when people learn to listen to their parts instead of fighting them, real transformation becomes possible.

This monthly column was born from Milton's vision to extend Roots Counseling's impact beyond the therapy room. He wanted to create a space where community members could access mental health insights, meet the clinicians behind the practice, and feel supported — even before scheduling their first appointment.

Milton's leadership is guided by one core belief: that healing is not something people should have to do alone. Whether through individual therapy, group programs, or community outreach like this column, he is dedicated to building a culture of connection, resilience, and hope in Iron County and beyond.

"Real healing begins when you don't have to do it alone."

— Milton McLelland
