Milton McLelland, Clinical Mental Health Counselor (CMHC)

Milton McLelland, Clinical Mental Health Counselor (CMHC)

Founder & Owner

Milton D. McLelland graduated from the University of Phoenix with his Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling in 2012. He worked for the local Medicaid provider (Southwest Behavioral Health Center) in Iron County from 2012- 2018. He had the honor of working with the most acute mentally ill clients there. They taught him that a disease does not define a person and that they can build the life they want, even with the hardest of disabilities. In Milton’s opinion, every mental health practitioner would benefit from spending a few years in those clinics. In 2016 Milton started Roots Counseling with his wife, Rochelle, who is also a mental health counselor. They worked part-time until 2018, when they took the leap into full entrepreneurship. Since 2016 they have grown to 5 total therapists and have built a successful practice. Roots Counseling specializes in trauma recovery through understanding and learning how a person got to where they presently are in life, healing through connection with the whole person, mind, body, and spirit. They also help clients obtain growth and strengthening through skills development to drive and build their own life worth living. Hence the Roots’ motto: Learn, Heal, Grow, Strengthen. Milton and Roots’ main therapeutic methods are Internal Family Systems (IFS), Dialectal Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (better known as EMDR). Milton has also trained with The Amen Clinic, the world leader in brain health, and The Gottman Method, which specializes in couples’ mental wellness.

She had great opportunities to learn and grow as she worked with adult clients. She was thrown into learning and teaching Dialectical Behavioral Therapy and has loved it ever since. It has been great to use the skills learned to create a foundation for Roots Counseling to build from. Rochelle is also trained in EMDR and IFS, both of which have added to the foundation created by DBT to make her a well-rounded therapist that can help see and meet the needs of her clients. Dave Dalton, Doctor of Osteopathy (D.O.)

I’m a (Doctor of Osteopathy (D.O.).  This means I am a fully licensed physician with privileges equivalent to an MD. I’m board certified by the American Osteopathic Association in Family Medicine, OMT, and Osteopathic Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine. I graduated from residency training in Kirksville, MO. I completed medical school at A.T. Still University of Health Sciences School of Osteopathic Medicine in Arizona.  I earned by bachelor’s degree at SUU in Chemistry Healthcare Emphasis and completed high school at Parowan High School.

I currently work full-time in Lincoln County, NV and am taking on a part-time role at Roots Counseling to provide medical services. About 80% of my practice in Nevada is musculoskeletal in nature. Anecdotally, I see a strong correlation between physical pain and behavioral health. I use osteopathic manipulation and dry needling in my treatment. A clinical encounter with me may partially look like a medical visit, a chiropractor visit, and an acupuncture type of visit blended together. There are other modalities that I may also try in one’s treatment.

I frequently recommend my patients to get counseling, and now, I will be working with patients who are already seeing a mental health therapist. I am hoping to complement the team at Roots with manual therapies and medication management. If you feel like your medical provider isn’t listening to you, then please contact Roots and get on my limited schedule. I will hear you out and give you my candid thoughts. I can start you on a medicine or continue your current medications while offering the other modalities I use.
